Checks to make before agreeing work

External profiles are one useful reference point, but they should sit alongside a clear written quotation. Check that the document identifies the rooms or elevations included, the preparation allowed for, the proposed products and finish, access arrangements, payment stages and anything specifically excluded from the price.

If the condition of a surface is uncertain, ask how unexpected preparation will be discussed before additional work is undertaken. Keep the accepted quotation and any agreed changes together. This creates a practical record of the scope and gives both the customer and the decorator the same reference throughout the project.
